i have gone from the standard 62 BHP to a tuned 1275 @85 BHP to my now 1330 (not been rolling road tested yet but i think i'm near to 100 BHP but probably a bit short)

and i can truthfully say i didn't notice the extra power with each jump

looking at the speedo i might see a few more MPH going up a hill or can hold a gear for longer

but it wasn't suddenly a fire breathing monster

Lol, are you on drugs or something!!

100bhp in a mini will give you a power to weight ratio of around 150bhp/ton (based on a car weighing 650kg) which is the same as a Mk5 Golf Gti! Even the new WRX STi's are only 200bhp/ton. Where they have better acceleration is the larger cc engine size. If you want more torque you have to increase the capacity (cc) of the engine.

This is a very interesting read, I have started thinking about saving for another engine and been debating between a hot 998 or an engine change, Vaux or R1. One aim I would like to meet is 100bhp per litre as thats a good sign and good for the pub ;) but I'm no where near the stage of affording another engine or mods and dont have enough experience on the road, but this is very handy for info and what a mini is really like with 100 bananas.

I once followed a classic Mini down a country road near my house in the wet in my Prodrive Impreza (250bhp), I could tell he was quick so thought i would have a go, should be easy.......i could hardly even keep up let alone go past him!!!

Thats because your imprezza probably weighed about 1500kg with you in the car! Bhp is all impressive in the pub but power to weight is where it's at!

Was around 190bhp/ton, seemed like a snail compared to R1 Mini (over 350bhp/ton)!!

If you want torque, run a mildly tuned/cammed 1100

i totally agree............but then again i would because thats what i'm building................ :proud:

Any spec on that? My brother has just spent around £2500 on bits for his 1380 and hoping for around 125bhp at the flywheel..

everyone is banging on about BHP...................its the torque that you need to make a car quick........not BHP............thats why all these guys with bike engined cars have to rev the tits off them all the time to make them go quickly,
bike engines may have loads of BHP but they have no torque to speak of.....pretty pointless for road use.
