Ive looked around on the forum and everyone who upgrades their alternator, upgrades to the one in an spi/mpi. The thing is i already have an spi and will be running a second battery for audio etc, usually this requires everyone to upgrade their alternator and im assuming that the alternator i currently have wont be able to handle the load very well

im going to be running close to 2000rms off of the second battery, if i dont already have that same alternator fitted, you reckon it will be able to handle that load?

You can fit a mpi unit with the (much better) wide belt, you will have to replace pulleys etc and add the tensor system from a mpi.
I replaced my stock MPI alt for a 120amp unit from a land rover. It's direct swap unit it just needed shimming a liitle.
With 2000 watts rms you are going to need at least a 120amp alt if you're doing this properly.

The mpi has the top bracket on the head and the tensioner does not fit a normal block
I didn't know that thanks.
I'm sure I've seen mpi alts retro fitted to older car though?

Classic mini alternators
Most Minis used the Lucas 16 ACR and 17 ACR alternators, but there have been others:
Manufacturer Model Output (amps) Lucas 15 ACR 28 Lucas 16 ACR 34 Lucas 17 ACR 36 Lucas 18 ACR 43 Lucas 20 ACR 66 Lucas A127 45 & 55
The A127 alternators fitted to the later SPi Minis are a straight swap for older 1x ACR models.
Lucas A127 alternators have also been fitted to a variety of other ARG cars; some casings are different but the internals are apparently the same. Ratings differ and rise - there is one available rated at 120A for an export version of the Range Rover, but expect to pay around UKP2 for each Amp of output!
There is a Lucas A127 alternator for a 1998 Ford Escort Diesel which is rated at 75A. Aside from possible issues with pulley size and alignment, this is likely to be cheaper than the equivalent Rover/Land Rover/Range Rover alternators, particularly second hand.
If yours is the A127 55Amp version you can pick up a 75A regulator from ebay for around £20. Or the Land Rover 120A version might be the biggest you can get, either that or you'll have to fabricate your own brackets etc to fit an OEM one from another car.

My Oringnal system in Ruckus was birthsheet rated at 3253 watts RMS

That's two RF 551x (575 and 577 rms)
And one RF 1000.2 (2101 rms at 2 ohms)

SPL Dynamics 1500d amp (1500rms)
still deciding between JL c3's or Hertz HSK components run actively off of which ever amp i choose at the time, still a while to go till i can even install anything

bit of a thread revival, anyone know if the land rover/range rover alt is a direct fit or will it need customising? anyone know what kind of customisation is needed....looking to install the ice soon now (car is finally out the body shop lol) so need to start gathering all the remaining parts...just need to know what to get
The land rover/range rover alts are direct fitment on MPI's only.
