So do people prefer watching films at home or going to the cinema? I like both, but I definitely need to get a surround sound system - I'm thinking of getting one of those sound bars (a Philips one to match my TV).

I have seen that Cineworld have a 14.99 a month unlimited card and there are plenty of services around like LoveFilm. Does anyone have membership to any of these? I am considering getting one of them but can't really decide which. The biggest down side to the Cinema card is that Cineworld isn't in every town and from the ones I would visit, most are quite small. The major drawback to both at the moment is being in Germany. The LoveFilm should be ok and I come back to the UK regularly enough to see at least a couple of films and month. Given that cinema prices are quite high, the 14.99 a month could be a good deal.

I have previously sourced films from other locations. I am getting bored of this now - I only have a decent enough internet connection when at my sisters and to get decent quality you have to wait some time. Moeny isn't really a problem so I've decided to stop doing that.

PS I have just realised that I have named the thread Cinema or Movies - the same thing  I actually meant Cinema or DVDs (or Blu Rays). If a mod sees could they please change - thanks!

Beat me to it! love the "sourced films from other locations" bit!!

I think it depends on the film, I go to see the ones im really interested in in the cinema. because i feel like im doing my bit to help the film company, i enjoy the hype of a new film that you've been waiting for for ages and it's a good treat if youve been working hard all week. Then i usually buy the DVD if it lives up to expectations and then force my family to watch it.

If its a film i've been told is good but ive never heard of i "source them from other locations"

I would never go on them orange wednesdays or anything like that, i dont get on with loud people... especially when im paying to be there!

Reallybig, I used to do that. I have since realised it is not really worth buying so many DVDs. Back in the 2000s, I used to buy DVDs and in particular bought every season of Friends (and a few other box sets). When I add everything up that I have spent, its a lot of money! And now, they are worth the square root of f all. I don't watch any of them regularly enough to justify the money spent. My policy now is going to be buy just the absolute best Blu Ray films. I will be keeping the Italian Job, The Bank Job and Planet Earth. Pretty much everything else is getting sold.

The advantage of Love Film is that it also includes games which means I no longer need to worry about spending money on them either! With either the cinema or LoveFilm, at least my money will get me a lot of up-to-date releases (and classics if I wish with film rental).

Or....

Acquired from the depths of the webs and enjoyed in bed with my lovely lady :) + chewing of LOTS of jaffa cakes :D

It depends on the film really. Like Titanic for example which got a rerelease, should really be viewed on the big screen. I recently watched Jurassic park on the big screen again and that was really the only proper way to watch that movie. But **** like fast and furious would not matter if you watched it on an ipod.

Thing is if you've been working hard all week on the new film being hyped you generally don't have time to get to see it!

It's very true that most decent films are designed to be seen properly on a big screen and are shot to suit. Jurassic Park is a great example, Spielberg shoots his movies mostly from a low angle, because you are meant to be looking up at the screen so the angle suits. Jurassic Park amplified this because the creatures were so big and tall anyway that it really feels right to have the image above you. Lower, faster is what we are always told while rehearsing.

On blue ray or DVD is better. You can watch the film in just your pants if at home :proud:

I suppose you could do this at the cinema but probably only once.

I personally like going to the cinema..

It's more like a treat then, and even if it's expensive, the 'showcase' I go to, is always empty.

.. I don't own a DVD player either >_<

I like both, I rarely go to the cinema but I must say I enjoyed watching Titanic on the big screen last night! The problem with the cinema is the expense, where as these days you can buy a film on Blu-ray for little more (or less) than the cost of a ticket and keep it for life. I've had a surround system running for a few years and they are very good at trying to recapture a cinema experience at home.

I used to subscribe to LoveFilm, it's a very good service, I just gave it up because of the cost and I didn't think I was getting enough use out of it.

I never watch a film twice, unless it's on telly. I'm not really sure why, but I just don't enjoy watching films at home that much.

I much prefer to watch things like family guy, the big bang theory or top gear at home.. and leave the films for the pictures.

.. Must admit, I watched 'the Bourne identity' the other day- for the mini chase-scene :proud:
