Hey. Got my multimeter out today to see if I can identify which wire is which in my Mayfair... all I have in the stereo slot is bare wires.

I've not done too badly, although the colours are random! :

1 Green - switched live
2 Purple - permanent live
3 Black - earth
4 Red - *see below*
5-8 Black/white - speakers

The red one is the one which is confusing me. If I connect it to the black/earth, nothing registers. If I connect it to either of the live wires, I get just under 12V (or -12V if I stick the red prong to it and the black one to the live). Turn on the side lights, it goes to about 0.8V, turn on the headlights, I get 1V. The reason I'm confused is because I assumed the illumination on the stereo would come ON when the lights are turned on rather than off?

Any guidance much appreciated, :-)

Ah, that would make sense.
