Hey guys, basically one of my final essays for my final year at uni is about the acceptance of drug use in music in America during the 1960s. As I am sure you are aware there are plenty of songs that publicly support the use of drugs such as LSD and weed. However there are relatively few that speak out against these drugs being used. Can anyone think of any songs of the 60s that speak out against the use of LSD and weed? Any help much appreciated :)

The Pusher by Steppenwolf. Other than that I don't really remember the 60's, or the 70's :shades:

I love steepenwolf but have already mentioned that song for a section on harder drugs such as heroin and cocaine, as there are loads of songs that speak out against them. However there seem to be none speaking out against LSD or Weed. The only one that I can think of is Okie from Muskogee, and thats not particuarlly good. Cheers anyway dude :)

If you remember the sixties, you weren't there! Wish I was born 40 years earlier, would have loved to have seen Jefferson Airplane :(

Never saw Jefferson Airplane. Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, The Band, Dylan, and load of others but not the Airplane. And today, like you, I drive a '91 Cooper.

I saw Dylan a couple of years ago and all i can say is....... He was dreadful! Nowhere near as good as he was back in his youth. Mate all I can is I am so bloody jealous! Not much of a "dead head" myself I'm afraid but Joplin and Hendrix i would have given my left nut to see! You ever wonder down to Haight-Ashbury? lol. Oh yes 91 coopers, please say yours is British Racing Green!

Afraid its an American politics module for the 1960s to early 70s. But good shout, however I have lots of songs that support the use of LSD and Weed, just none that speak out against it.....
Cheers anyway

Of course it is BRG. Did it come in other colours ;D

Never made the Haight Ashbury scene. Did see Dylan again a few years ago and I agree with you- he was dreadful. On the other hand, other I know have seen him recently and said it was good. Seems it depends which night you see him.

The sixties would have been the best time to be alive. Really would. I can't imagine how good.

I'm sure MaxAndPaddy has some memories

DUnno if this'd count since it's 70's, but Life In The Fast Lane - The Eagles was about the negative effects of excessive drug use. Probably more to do with speed and coke though.
