I know its not a song but if your looking at the bad side of LSD use; peter green of fleetwood mac is a good example.

The sixties - FANTSTIC.
I bought my first Mini, an 850 deLuxe, 49 years ago yesterday!
The cars, the girls, the music, in fact everything but most of all, the opportunities!

How about old ravers? Praga Khan - Injected With A Poison is a nice anti drug track from the 90's, you could include it in your conclusion showing that nothing is ever new just refashioned..

Perfect Day by Lou Reed. Most people think it's a joyful song about having a nice day out with somebody you love.

Whether or not Mr Reed was actually talking about his heroin addiction at the time is still under debate. He won't deny or admit it. Read the lyrics. They ain't that positive really. Make your own interpretation?

Lou Reed
Transformer (1972)
Perfect Day

Just A Perfect Day,
Drink Sangria In The Park,
And Then Later, When It Gets Dark,
We Go Home.
Just A Perfect Day,
Feed Animals In The Zoo
Then Later, A Movie, Too,
And Then Home.

Oh It's Such A Perfect Day,
I'm Glad I Spent It With You.
Oh Such A Perfect Day,
You Just Keep Me Hanging On,
You Just Keep Me Hanging On.

Just A Perfect Day,
Problems All Left Alone,
Weekenders On Our Own.
It's Such Fun.
Just A Perfect Day,
You Made Me Forget Myself.
I Thought I Was Someone Else,
Someone Good.

Oh It's Such A Perfect Day,
I'm Glad I Spent It With You.
Oh Such A Perfect Day,
You Just Keep Me Hanging On,
You Just Keep Me Hanging On.

You're Going To Reap Just What You Sow,
You're Going To Reap Just What You Sow,
You're Going To Reap Just What You Sow,
You're Going To Reap Just What You Sow...

EDIT: Dammit! That's seventies, not sixties..... >_<

Juju has reminded me, heroin by the velvet underground. Possibly not anti drug, but talks about dependence.

(goes off to dig out velvet underground CDs)

Can anyone think of any songs of the 60s that speak out against the use of LSD and weed? Any help much appreciated :)

No! Obviously I was there, so i can't remember the 60s :P

But any pro-establishment, anti-drugs, dare I say maybe 'early Christian rock' songs would have disappeared long ago!

The best I can think of is Lou Reed's "I'm Waiting for the Man" which doesn't exactly glorify smack addiction!

There are two other lyrics I can half remember, but Google must be a bit high at the moment 'because it can't identify ... "Ever since I found Jesus, I don't smoke dope any more! {I don't smoke it any less, mind!]" - which might have been Janis Joplin - and a comedy lyric "Ain't a gonna drink no more marijuana, ain't a gonna smoke no more white wine, till I find me an ugly man!" - which turns out to be http://www.charliegi....php?f=35&t=851

Just to let everybody know I handed in the essay at midday. Cheers for the advice. Already had got Lou reed + velvet underground and a bunch of others as theres no shortage of anti hard drug songs!! I repeat what I was looking for was any song that rejected the psychedelic drugs such as acid in the hippie era!!! Managed to find a couple but they are few and far between. Cheers cmxcviii, do not fear I mentioned Janice Joplin lots.

Fact of the day. 2 people died at Woodstock festival in 69. One was run over by a tracktor and the other was due to a heroin overdose.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds is not about LSD I'm afraid its folk lore myth. The song was written bout a picture johns son drew at school. The picture was a drawing of his best friend Lucy and had diamonds as stars

Not just in America, dont forget the Beatles

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

I have just been watching QI, and apparently that song is nothing about drugs. They only realised it spelt LSD afterwards apparently.
