i just connected the heater pipes together in the cockpit. that way you could theoretically just reconnect the heater unit without matrix as it's an electronic fan in the unit as far as i know.

someone said something somewhere about blanking causing a heating loop...

The heater pipes shold be blocked, not linked together, if you don't have a heater. Otherwise, you are allowing a fair flow of hot water to bypass the radiator.

Pipes can be linked together - no need to block them

just switch the valve off - so no flow - same as a normal mini with heater off

have seen a mini somewhere with a copper pipe running below the screen ??? (not sure it worked - can't see why not)

If you have a valve, yes I totally agree. For some reason I seem to recall doing it to a Mini that did not have a valve on the cylinder head, and used an inline valve, possibly because it was a Metro engine.

I have an Spi without heat and the pipes are joined. Does the Spi have a heater valve, and if so, where is it and how is it closed? A photo would really help.

Thanks!

just wondering if you remove the heater for good, what should you do with the pipework from the engine?

Blank both pipes off at the engine. In most cases that needs a blanking plate and gasket on the head, and a bottom hose with no branch.

I'd link the 2 pipes together so you get good flow round your engine with no hot spots at cylinder no 4

It has already been pointed out that you do not link the pipes together. When the heater is turned off in hot weather there is no circulation anyway.
