Personally snap on are very overpriced, especially after seeing how cheap an ex employee was selling his brand new never used snap on tools for on ebay a couple of weeks ago, he wanted what he paid for them and you would struggle to buy second hand snap on tools for the price he was selling them for.
buy king dick tools all the way, amazing quality tools and not all that expensive either great tools, highly recommended plus they are british aswell :)

You now pay for the name on snap on, it is ok kit but compared to the quality they used to sell its gone rapidly down hill. I still buy it because its accessable and replaced no quibbles.

I've gone off the idea of big roll boxes, my last one was 35kg when it was empty, tilled up with tools, and it took minutes for 2 pikeys to pull up in a transit, and lift the thing in one into the van and drive away, lost thousands worth of stuff... now my stuff is distributed in tool bags...

Surely though now you have them all in bags they are lighter and easier to lift into a car? At least if you have a roller box they can't be fitted into a small car, this means theives must have a van to rob a big box so makes them harder to steel to the little chav being optimistic

But thats what tool insurance is for/workshop contense insurance. And decent alarm systems/ and decent locks to chain it to the floor.
And at end of the day you dont let pikeys or people know about it or neer it.....

No, it makes them easier to keep indoors on shelves in my tool cupboard lol where as the roller cab was to big and heavy to get into a flat, so it lived in the garage...

I miss it dearly, but I know more than I should, so my eyes are peeled in the right places ;)

I'm sorry it looked to me like it was a tool box on wheels...for £3,832.86! I can build you one for that. And that includes me taking a very extensive metal work course. >_<

I can just about understand for a professional garage but that is still ridiculous.

I bought one from Halfords for £60. It does for me !

It's all down to choice. People will pay £50 plus for a tshirt with a name on or millions on just a car. I've worked in the industry for over twenty years and snap on tools have served me well. I've bought large expensive tool boxes because although expensive. They are very good. I've tried the likes of halfords, they don't compare. Mine didn't last and the warranty is appealing. I've since given them to our apprentice.

I have no problem with people investing in quality tools. If you are in a trade where you need them all the time, it makes sense to buy good ones that will last you instead of buying new every couple of years. But nearly 4k to store them is mental? Surely you could make something yourself for a lot less money? And then you could design it exactly how you wanted it.

At the end of the day, who am I to question what anyone spends their money on? I dare say there are things I would spend a lot of money that someone else would be horrified at. For example, spending a couple of thousand on a decent mountain bike is fine for me  I know plenty of people who would be horrified at that.

If you have £20k+ of tools, you wouldnt want to store them in a cheapy box you found in halfords, or where ever.
I looked at getting a cheap machine mart box to do my own customising, but after trying them instore, i paid for a snap on box and customised that. Customers and even the dealer have loved it. I wouldn't be happy if I had chosen any other

Holy cow that is a lot of tools. Fair enough, if you are using them all the time and it is your livelihood then it makes more sense.

Are those of you that have invested in such tool boxes and tools all mechanics, or other trades as well?
