Declaring Mods

Say on a stage 3 1380 - do you declare every single thing, and to what level? Obviously declare cams and a new head? What about a lightened flywheel? Electronic ignition? The whole thing seems pretty confusing!
What about things that aren't part of the engine, and are only passive parts... Is there any point declaring an upgraded rad?
Thanks in advance!

Engine modifications plus 10% bhp etc would cover all aspects

I think modified car specialists just ask for bhp increase like martin said.

If its all declared then you are safe, why take the chance with your pride and joy. Why gamble and possibly lose everything.
For example on my old RS i declared the lot, engine, exhaust, induction system, suspension etc plus got an agreed value through the RS owners club that was agreed with the insurance company. All with receipts as well.

Every time I insure a car n declare things they always state they will only replace manufactures standard stuff!
I may be wrong with classic/ special insurance but it's deffo the case on normal car insurance

I just asked them whether I needed to list every single mod or just a cost for "engine modifications"...
What did they say to that? I'm assuming most of the specialist insurers are going to work in a similar way.
Out of interest, how much did that much bhp increase your insurance by?

When I asked about how to declare the mods, she wasn't actually sure, so I just reeled out a list and she grouped them under "engine modifications - £1500", but I've got agreed value and all that jazz.

Yes, not declaring mods WILL invalidate the policy. Insurers will do all they can to wheedle their way out of paying out

Its a proper word Matt.

Surely if you don't declare your mods they could invalidate your insurance????
Yes it does. Seen it happen when worked in trade

Would you declare:
Changing to black bumpers from chrome?
Changing to clear indicators?
Changing from silver grill slats to black?
Adding belt straps to bonnet?
Changing to halogens from sealed beams?
Adding a GB badge to the rear?
Changing wipers from black to chrome?
and many more similar tiny mods...
Im just interested... all seem pretty N/A to me, But what would you do?
I bet its not long before we hear about insurance voiding cover after a crash because of a forest fresh hanging from the mirror.
