Something like a Swifttune Retro Road flywheel would be quite nice on a road engine. You don't really need anything lighter.

have a chat with swiftune about it

what are you revving it to, its only a 276

for road car you need the low down torque

you will miss it

mine is mg metro engine, maniflow full system

mg cam ( like 266 ), KN, modified inlet ports

balanced engine, perfect for quick road

I've emailed mini spares but I'll also ask swiftune. I rev the engine to about 4k, but quite often I do like to put it through the rev range

You want to rev the engine to 4k with a 276..it will fall off cam at each gearchange.
Go for a kent 266 instead.
That swifty flywheel looks quite pricey.....

I can't really change the cam now. I bought it as part of a kit and the cam and the valve springs are already in the block and head. My father reckons the 276 is a good cam and has used it a few times

A 276 is a good cam but you'll need to change the way you drive to make the most of it.

For what it's worth changing a cam isn't that hard especially with the engine out and you should be able to get decent money for the 276 if it's in good nick.

By taking the engine beyond 4k. Think more along the lines of 6.5/7k

Ah right, I get what you mean. I've read through David Vizard's book again tonight and read the section about lightened flywheels and I've decided to take a risk and get one. Would I want the lightest one available or will a "heavy" lightened flywheel do?

at your own peril, have warned you about torque

whats the point unles revving the balls out of it

which your not going to, and balanced engine

i have driven a mk2 S with a modded head and a 266 cam lightened fly and it was awesome very quick smooth and very usable. i have also driven a car fitted with the 276 cam and it was hard work, very lumpy at idle and as said above had to rev it just to pull off which i felt like a bit of a boy racer and thats not good.

is there anyone you can call on with the 266 or 276 cam for you to have a drive in?

I don 't think there is. My father's old cooper has the 276 but the engine is ot and the car has been still for a good 5 years

More about 5.5k on a 3.44 diff, the engine will still be nippy, while taking the engine above 6k all the time will shorten its life a lot ;)

To keep it on cam I'm going to have to rev it quite a bit so the flywheel should be suited for the engine shouldn't it?
