Little black cases, round, and just a bit bigger than a fuse. Kind of a fuse pod if that makes sense. Two of them near the carb. Whip the air filter box off to make it easier to see it.

Ah, 5 mins after I posted I found them.
I have 4 around the carb...one was empty??
Ok, according to the Haynes manual, in the fuse box, fuses 7 and 8 are for the left hand side, tail lights, instrument panel lights and dim dip relay.
Fiddling with the fuses in the box fixed my first problems. I also renewed the box and fuses.
The line fuses - only one is related to the tail lights. None of these are for the dash. I'm gonna buy all new fuses for these too tomorrow and see what happens. Although this wont fix the dash lights....
urgh.

Weird. Perhaps a poor connection on your shiny fusebox. Why not snip off all connections, strip back the wire and fit new terminals.

Not sure if it's likely to be this as you say one of your tail lights are working, but when my dash lights and tail lights stopped working it was down to the switch on the dashboard.
A new switch is only a few quid and only takes 10 seconds to replace :) Might be worth a go!

Why would the switch affect ONE tail light only? Think about it, ignore ridiculous advice, and save your money. The right hand side light, tail light and dash lights are all on one inline fuse. The other side and tail lights are on the other fuse, in the box. They are all on the same contact of the same switch, so as some of them work, the switch cannot be faulty.
But it is not clear from the Haynes diagram where the red feed to the two fuses are joined. There may be two reds on the switch terminal, if so, check they are both connected. Or, there may be two reds at the fuse in the box, if they are joined there.
And, if the sidelight works, but not the tail and dash lights, forget the red feed to the inline fuse and follow the red-white wires and see where they are joined. Likely one only from the inline fuse, but it must split somewhere to go to the side, tail and dash lights.

From everything I've read this must be the inline, if not bad connections.
Has the op actually changed the inline?

Problem fixed.
One of the fuses was missing from the inline??? Very strange as it was closed but there was no fuse at all.....I put a new one in there and it worked. So, new fuse box, fuses all round anyway, didnt hurt!
Thanks for everyones patience!
