Halfords sell it all, although you can probably get it cheaper online. I can get the part numbers for you if you like.

I'd probably go the roof rack route. While I'm sure the ones at the back are properly secured, the roof racks always look safer!

A mate of mine has just bought a camper can. It's great for taking the bikes. Went out on them today - it was good fun.

I'm seriously thinking of getting a van and installing a bed, some storage and a rack on the I side and use that for carrying the bike. There are some really cool self made camper vans around.

just out of interest.. the thule roof racks look like they are supported via the gutter... how much weight do you think it could take before something is bent or broken? O_O

there reasonably strong . the roof racks flex slighty which has a squeezing effect on the roof rather than all the weight straight down on the gutter if that makes sense.

also if any one wants these racks type in metro roof racks on ebay i got both bars & all clamps for just ofer £20 new i own both metro & Mini the rack fits both :proud:

Roof racks will allow for more roof damage--- some care some dont.

I'm sold now on a Trailer hitch - and using Hitch mount racks for transporting cycles

Im going to craft a hitch mount just like this when ready .

http://www.ebay.com/...f446c6a&vxp=mtr

and then i already have the full standup bike rack to fit the hitch. Called an X Port - Purchased second hand from our local Craigslist.

Once fitted to my mini - i can move the same rack between Wife's BMW - My mini. and my buddies Volvo --- all easy on easy off. Still gives access to trunk.

Yeah mate i dont give a **** about damaging my car so i thought ******* it il put a roof rack on, who cares? I could of done to a load of effort spending loads of some ugly hitch thing costing me a crap load of money but i thought id be cheap and careless by putting this roof rack on. Which is well know for damaging car roofs. But i dont care so its fine.

I'm lost by what damage a roof rack does. I don't keep mine on for show, and as far as I can tell no damage has been done to the paint around the gutter. The finish on the feet and the roof gutter trim keep it all safe. Mine happily carries 3 road bikes or 2 mountain bikes. By virtue of the Mini being so low it's easy to lift bikes up!

Loading bikes or kayaks has never damaged anything. I suppose if you drop something it will, but it would at the back or sides or anywhere else you allow something to hit the paint work.

I used mine to pick up some pole vault poles last night, wish I'd taken a photo, they were longer than I envisioned!
