I'm retired, so I can do whatever my wife allows me to.
Finally someone that doesn't have a exam to do :)
But for everyone else hang in there, it's worth it in the end

Last year I had to take a written flying exam. That was the first exam I'd taken since 1963. I passed with 94%, so how's that!
You never stop learning in life.

is there anything you can't do! Have you got a pilots licence and all then?
I learned to fly with an RAF Flying Scholarship when I was a 17-year old Air Cadet and that was before I could drive.
After power flying I turned to gliding, so now I fly sailplanes at Nene Valley Gliding Club. I returned to gliding when I retired and really decided I couldn't afford National Level rallying any more.
If anyone on here lives in or near Huntingdon and fancies a trial lesson I'll be pleased to arrange it.
Here I am about to take off last Spring in an SZD-51-1 sailplane.

Fair play! would love to be able to do something like that, but don't think i'd have the head for heights.
I've always thought gliding would be a really odd sensation, I mean its basically a controlled fall...

AS an example, in March I took off and had a launch to 1300 ft. I searched for a thermal and finally found a fairly weak ont at 800 ft. After circling in it for a while it strengthened and took me to just over 3000 ft. I left it and flew back towards the airfield, finding another good one at 1700 ft which took me back to 2800 ft. I did a flight of 1hr 20min and it was a good days flying. It's not expensive either. In a powered aeroplane, like a Cessna, a 1hr 20min flight would cost around £200, but that flight in a glider cost me a £5-50 launch cost plus 30p per minute for 100 minutes, so £35-50 in total. Less than a meal for 2 in a restaurant.
It is a fantastic sport and we have several young members ready to fly solo at 16 years old right up to old b*****s like me.
