The heater control is via a cable, which operates the valve.

Please please forgive me, but I am extremely inept when it comes to the mechanical aspect of cars :( I hope this car will improve this inability rapidly :P But for ONE CARB OR TWO, Here are some snaps of under my bonnet, can you determine which position it would be from these pictures? By the way, apologies for the very dirty appearence, it's measly in comparison to the images you provided :P

Those pictures show the valve on the head.
This would mean pushed in for heat...pull knob out for cooler air

Just to add, even after you switch to cold, it will still blow hot air for a while as there is a still warm fluid in the heater matrix. Once this cools down then cold (ambient) air will be blown.
Also there is a good chance the valve is seized, maybe not completely but it may be worth oiling it and the cable.
My heater had two hot settings, really-hot and slightly-less-really-hot until i oiled up the valve and cable :)

I attempted to test it this evening but no hope, there is no warm air coming through, I wondering whether it is clogged now and/or needs an oiling, could anyone please perhaps give me some guidance or links on how to go about this,

Thanks greatly :)

Shown in the picture (Red Circle) is the valve, get someone to help you, and push/pull the knob and see if the valve moves at all.
If it does and also if you have a temperature gauge check the engine is actually getting up to temperature, as if the thermostat is stuck open the coolant won't get up to temperature and the air will not get hot.

If the valve is stuck then just put oil where the yellow arrows below show, basically everything that looks like it should move.

mine is either hot when pushed in or boiling when pulled out.

its a heater not a fan.

By the looks of the picture, in the above post, it would appear that your heater valve is already open. Check its' operation, as mentioned above, to get it working. If you still do not have heat then it is possible that your heater matrix is clogged up and nedds either flushing out or replacing.

As I can pull the dashboard knob with the fiery flames symbol fully out of the dash with it's inner-wire attached I think it might be safe to assume that there is no heating available.

Especially as when looking on the cylinder head where I expected a control-valve and heater tubing to be there is a vacant space.  Why?  You only have to sit in the car and take 2 deep breaths in and out and all the windows fog up for goodness sake.  How on earth are Clarissa and I going to successfully go dogging in this?  :D

The problem may well be an airlock in the heater hose.

Simple enough to check/resolve.

Since you are on your admission "extremely inept when it comes to the mechanical aspect of car"(s), it might be best left to someone with skill.

On my car (83) it's pushed in for heat, then for cold its out -;stops the flow of water into heater matrix.

On later models with inline valve it's pull out for heat and in fully for cold
