Here's a nice easy one to start this section of the forum off.
How many people on here actually have a Turbo Mini ? On the road ? in the process of building one ? Have plans to build one in the future ?

Cheers
Phil.

PS. Would it be possible for somebody in Admin to move all archive "Turbo" related topics in to this section ? I know there have been quite a few recently, it would mean that all the useful information for Turbos was in one section then ? Just a thought. :D

OK..... i think im about to get the ball rolling.

I might be getting some 1310 low comp pistons.. guess who from

Now... if i bought a complete mg turbo engine could i bore it out and make a 1310 turbo this way? I tried reading some of the turbo sites last nite but they seemed to be down. :nugget:

I'm working on my conversion - decided to do it all properly now so it'll prolly not be complete till next year due to cash restrictions. I have nearly stripped the whole metro down now, just got to lift the block + box out then take out the fuel system + any wiring I may need.

I'll spend most of this year bringing the rest of the car upto spec, suspension, brakes, rollcage etc.

The main engine / box spec should be..

+40 thou, block modded for GpA gasket,
Avonbar turbo head, reworked a little more.
Straight cut drops
Box rebuilt using a Straight cut 2nd,3rd,4th gears.
twin crosspin diff
running 12psi maintaining ECU
+ the biggest intercooler I can get to fit.

Why only 2nd, 3rd and 4th?

Think you'll find that it aint possible to do that as the gears that engages 1st also engages other gears, so its either all s/c or nothin. If your gonna go s/c, then go the whole hog :D

At least two places do a replacement A+ gearset that uses your existing first and reverse gears. Mini-its have one + I forget the other I saw. This is only a kit for A+ boxes and saves quite a substantial amount of cash.

Or maybe I have read their adverts wrong :S

1'st and reverse gears are already straight cut on a standard box.

:wales: I've got a turbo instalation underway at the moment, 1293 ex-works built by jonspeed. Didn't have a clue about turbos when I bought it at 45 but had a crash course and getting to grips with it now, bloody nightmare but my own fault for impulse buyin! :D

Hopefully, this summer, it will happen. Somone local has a '73 Clubby estate thats a bit shagged out, but with a nice body. Plan is to work like a beast over the summer, now that college has finished, strip it to the bone, spray it matt-black, stick a turbo'd lump in, and get some chrome on that beaut!

I'm thinking 6×10" Chrome Minilites.

A bling-bling rocket!
