Thinking about getting a welder and teaching myself so I can do bodywork etc

Any recommendations for a cheap welder that still is nice to use :)

Cheers

I've used clarke mig welders to work on my cars over the last 25 years with no problems. They are reasonably priced and machine mart sell them. Some of the cheap migs for are really no good at all and as a beginner you may have difficulty using the. It may also help if you can enroll on a night class for welding or get some lessons off an experiemced welder if you know one. Also try on the mig welding forum which is very helpful.

Ive thought about leaving it to the pros but it's just cost really
And it's something I've wanted to do :) I suppose it's either do it myself and spend money on a welder and equipment or pay someone and have it done nice :)

Really want to be able to take on other projects myself :)

Don't get a flux cored MiG, they are difficult to learn to use and produce a poor job. Go for a proper gas bottle welder and use argon in preference to pub gas. If you get a good welding outfit you'll find it worth every penny and fun to use.
This is a good website for learning http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/ and these are good for gas http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/
