Thats had a bump at the back, seen it a few times.

It can be caused by hitting a kerb really hard as well. Check the shell for signs of twisting, dents in the roof and seat crossmember.

Is there any damage to the boot floor?

I bought it as an unfinished project, so it has new full boot floor. doesnt seem to be anything out of shape or twisted though. God i hope thats not why its unfinished.

Thats what I was trying to gibber on about pump! Really anything that can be arranged in that fashion to exert a downward force. Shifty is correct in that everything will need to be checked to ensure the shell hasn't had a dunt. I've checked my shell when both subs are in place and made sure they're parralel to each other an both are level across the car. You could do the same and try fitting the glass, boot lid and doors to see if there's anything out of place, and remember that pretty much anything can be fixed as long as you have the time and the money!!!

Yep, that is usual damage for a rear end shunt

+1 , backed my second mini into a tree, and ended up with a rear quarter identical to that.

... also knocked all of the filler out of the boot floor O_O

... taught myself to weld shortly after !

If your mini is anything like mine then you'll end up replacing most of the boot floor and sub mounts anyway, just make sure everything is square, the windows and doors fit and the wheels are still in the corners!

Some great advice here guys thanks. I may start stripping my donor car now to see everything lines up on the other shell. Bit of a dose now, but sure there is always something unexpected waiting around the corner with a mini!!!

After all this talking I couldn't resist going out to the garage for a look! I checked the wheel tub, which is mostly original, and couldn't see any deformation in it which makes me think that the reason for my bump is what sonikk4 suggested ( tyres hitting the arch). The bump is mostly from the 11 to 2 o'clock part of the arch, and I tried clamping on a welding clamp, passing a bar through the clamp and onto a bit of wood on the inside of the arch. Pushing down on the bar and gently tapping on the ridge of the bump has taken out a lot of the bump, hopefully with a little shrinking it should be ok. I'm confident this is the reason for the bump and not a shunt from the rear but obviously others cars which have similar bumps could have a different reason.

I tend to agree with sonikk4 and yourself skoughi thats its prob damage from a speed bump or something pushing the arch upwards and making the qtr panel kink a bit. Defo no damage anywhere, not one bit of filler and the metal looks origional except for new boot floor.

Im feeling a lot less worried now as this totally makes sense. I shall try your method tomorrow and report back with the results.

Thanks folks.

Where that ten inch wheel will be touching the arch is exactly where my dent is! My clubby had tens on when I bought her and she was quite low as well. I should've taken a photo of how I had the clamp set up tonight, I'm sure you'll be able to suss something out bud, good luck and let us know how you get on!
