Think your spot on with the petrol, got sold a bit of a lemon with this car, I will go for some petrol in the morning

sometimes the sensor arm sticks - and gives a false reading - tap the tank gently see if it drops

if the only problem is fueling - you have done ok - there are some real dogs out there

Oh, that kind of cut out switch is ok, I thought you were talking about something which had modified the fuel system and made it non-standard. Your insurance company "should" give you a few quid off for having an anti-theft device, but I would not be very hopeful....

I think that, now we are all clear on where the pump is (inevitable really, as there should not be anything else there which would make a noise, but it is always best to be very sure), you will be able to check the hose from the tank to the pump. Chances are it is leaking.

At worst, it is a faulty pump.

Haha, the sender unit in the tank had stuck at around half full, I thought to fill up a 7 litre jerry can and put some in and I heard the petrol hit the bottom of the tank and thought oh dear. I've orderd a new unit to be sure it won't happen again but um glad that it was so simple and cheap! Thanks again for the hints, ill not make this mistake again!

They do stick from time to time

good to see it was a simple fix

as said before - look for the simplest solution first ;D
