also, often there is a 1.4 capacity rule for forced induction, meaning a turbo'd 970,998 or 999 engine would go in the 1400cc catagory, against normally aspirated cars, this can make them pretty hard to beat.

I would suggest that nowadays the 970S engine is so rare and valuable that any that become available are best preserved for historic racing and things like that, rather than being used on the road, where a 1275 or even a 998 will do you more good for less expenditure. And the odd show, of course.

 

It is of course up to everyone what they do with their cars and engines, within the law of course. But it is good to keep some bits of history as intact as possible. I would take almost the same view with a MK1, especially a van, or any Elf or Hornet. Too scarce to risk using daily. Some relatively modern cars have disappeared without trace. We don't want that to happen to any Mini variant, if possible.
