I have just had my block and head skimmed and have just noticed it has come back with the engine identification missing off the block.
Should I worry about this? What problems can i cause me later? or is it absolutely fine?

It's not a problem - type the number directly on the block if you wish - or just don't bother!

I wouldnt lose any sleep about it. None of the after market parts suppliers-minispares,minisport,minispeed etc etc ask for engine numbers, nor indeed do they mean anything to them. Its either an A or an A+, thats it these days really.

Well it may do, it depends on the buyer. Many buyers, won't check, won't notice or just won't be even be bothered. But others who like everything to be "just so" might well be put off.
To be fair the wrong engine number tends to be a bigger problem, as the engine number has to legally match the number listed on the logbook/V5c and DVLA require won't allow you to just change the engine number on the logbook any more, without certain evidence that a genuine engine change has taken place.
Logically, if you haven't got an engine number, then you can't really be accused of it not matching the one on the logbook/v5c...

If you don't know that the engine now fitted is the one that the original number referred to, don't stamp the number on it. You don't know if someone else is out there somewhere using that engine.

Thanks Dan...I am just afraid when I export the car to the States Customs will have a fit over it...From the previous owner and log book info, the engine has been the same...the tag is still on the engine, well it has rusted off where the numbers go
