Hey guys, right my local garage (love them) sorted my carb out and got it ticking over at 700rpm :)

now my car is running lovely and I love it too bits and realllly don't want to mess it all up but............................... I want to go one step further and put a stage 1 kit on it. love the sound and increase performance a bit.

Putting the exhaust, exhaust manifold and inlet manifold on my self is easy but just a bit worried about the carb needle been reading some peoples posts on here about there stage 1 kit not running and its because the needle,

I dont have enough money to take it to the garage for them to do to,

so just wondering how hard it is to set the carb needle and spring up on the carb ???

i will take it to a rolling road on my birthday which is next month but just dont want it cutting out on me or wasting my petrol !!!
and i need the car for work so ... :) sorry for going on

Isn't AAV a good starting point?

AAV is the standard needle for a 998 with HS4,
You would probably want a AAU with a stage one as this is a bit richer, but not too rich which means it can be altered by rolling road people to suit.
Or you could use an AAA which is richer again and may also suit.

Changing the needle over in a HS4 is a very simple job, undo the 3 screws holding the dashpot on, lift it up with the piston, undo the screw on the piston and remove the needle, they the opposite to put it back together.

And a starting point for the mixture is screw up the jet until it is flush with the bridge (you will know what i mean with the dashpot and piston off) then turn the jet down two whole turns.

I done my stage 1 kit yesterday and changed my needle from and aav to aau, very easy job and it started first time and feels great.
Needs very slight tweaking but for the time being its a pleasure to drive. Sounds fantastic too!

Just looking on minispares to buy the needle, (AAU) it says that it might not work well if i dont have the rc40 exhaust, I have this exhaust
http://www.ebay.co.u...b#ht_500wt_1185

and a 3-2-1 manifold will it still work ????

for how much they are id buy an aau and an aaa and try them both, old cars are more individuals than newer ones so what works for one may be no good for another!
