Im sure this is a common problem with all mini owners but maybe someone can give me a little advise.
When its wet and damp outside my mini plays up. It starts by having a problem excellerating over say 40mph. when you do accellerate the whole car judders badly. If you slow down then the car still runs fine just about. However when i then try to accelerate again the car judders. So i get down to 20mph and still cant excellerate. I stop for a junction and the car just dies trying to pull off. I think its to do with the distributer or sparks getting wet, maybe both.
currently running a standard engine 1275cc on a rover mini cooper 1990.
Im considering putting electronic ignition kit in the distributer, will this fix it ??
also if is there a mod for the heaters in minis, improving the old one or replacing with something else all together as im forever steaming up.
cheers.

some people on the other hand just put a rubber glove over the distributor, looks pants but it does the trick

I experienced exacly the same problem and would cause serious problems when doing long motorway journeys. When I realsied the standard splash guard things aren't very easy to get hold of without paying thru my back side I decided to make a 5 minuite homemade boj job to keep me going and to my delight it worked a treat. . . get an old rubber tube and cut a section long enough to cover the front end of your engine (inc. spark plugs) open it up and place it where the original splash guard goes covering the dizzy and the plugs. Attach it howver you can, i screwed it thru on to the splash guard brackets which were still on the engine. Just make sure it's not flapping about.
Doesn't look very cool but sorts a very serious problems + it's easy enough to take off / put on when and as u need it

I had the same problem with my mini a couple of months ago, it kept juddering and dying in the wet. My dad fixed it for me

Now when i drive in the wet, no problems at all. Even heavy rainfall. But for extra cover iv got a flora margarine tub over my distributor hee hee, just in case!

Hilarious reply there!!! I think you'll find that coolant hose is not 'just rubber'!!!! The same as fuel hose is not 'just rubber'!!! I give up !!!
sorry wasn't having a dig mate
