I was realy looking for someone on this site who has actualy completed the C&G 6189 level 1,2&3 and get there opinion on the course.
6189 is only level 2 & 3 most people doing it will still have a year to go as it has only been running a year and is designed to run 1 day a week for 2 years for both level 2 & 3.
Level 2 is a tough course with 11 on line exams lots of practical assessments and then a on site portfolio to complete, to gain the knowledge to achieve this course the 2 year programme is by far the best, also be prepared to purchase text books and do research outside college.

college is good for learning all the basics like how to solder, bend pipes ETC. but its a completely different ball game on site. you gotta use your own head rather than read off a sheet telling you measurements.
i'll be looking for an apprenticeship for my second year then i can get my NVQ. if you can find an apprenticeship DONT say no!!! you'll learn more than you ever will in college or anything else.
and also dont let college put you off. keep with it!

i've nearly finished my first year of plumbing. and i was fortunate that my tutor got me working for him for 5 days. 2 days installing loads of toilets in an old persons home (the stench was FOUL!) 1 day going around doing boiler and gas safety checks ( i couldnt do much there) and then 2 days installing pipe work in a completely stripped out house. and those 5 days i learnt more than i did in the whole year i did in college.

Totally agree with you Josh, you will learn far more on site in the real world than in a simulated work place, that’s why I think you need to do the full 2 years on site to get the valuable experience.
