If you&#39;re really hung up on converting to an Automatic choke, there is a version of the HIF carb which does have this. Was fitted to cars like the montego but does need a few other bits a bobs in terms of an electronic control unit and sensors<br />

I had this on a 1.3 a series maestro, was horrible. Converted to manual choke. I agree that the choke is so simple its hard to fathom why you would want to ditch it.

Throttle bodies, custom inlet manifold and a megasquirt kit would allow you to remove the choke.

The £10 for a new choke cable delivered is going to be a LOT cheaper though.

A choke has the advantage of being a bit of a security feature. How many thieving scumbags in this country are smart enough to know how to use a manual one. By the time they have figured it out you will have probably heard them, smashed there heads in with the nearest heavy blunt object and be part way through disposing of their corpses'. Well I would be anyway....

Off topic but breaker bars make good blunt and heavy objects. Torque wrenches also but you will knock them out of calibration. I've never seen a teenage pedal so hard on a BMX before until I went after them with my breaker bar. That will teach you, you thieving little b*******. YOU DO NOT ATTACK AND TRY TO ROB ME AND GET AWAY WITH IT.

Same goes for the two Asian lads who tried to nick off with all my tools in the Scrap yard on Wednesday. You are lucky the yards owner stopped you before I caught up with you. I'm not so nice.

Back on topic. To the original poster. Changing your choke cable will be a lot more simple than trying to remove the choke. You could use a later mpi or spi engine but you will need the ecu and wiring loom to go with them.

The manual choke is one of the quirks of a mini in my mind. They are also a good back up if your accelerator cable ever breaks. Mine did so I swapped the choke over to the throttle. I managed to drive my mini about 11 miles from Telford back home using the choke as my accelerator. Makes for some fun driving.

Nobody has asked where to hang your handbag if you haven't got a choke to pull out.
