Was out with a friend for lunch a little while ago and whilst driving she had to "ATTEMPT" an emergency stop
due to someone stepping out.
To my horror nothing really happened when she stomped on the brakes.
She told me the brakes had been making funny noises etc and were not very good.

I tried them and they were non existant...!

So after trying to work out what was wrong
after taking of the wheel I found this...

Look closely boys and girls as you will not see this often and live to tell the tale.

The brake disc has been getting ground away because the brake pads were down to the metal.

The disc is so thin than it has cracked and came away, i think it was about .5mm thick..
yes 0.5mm

Afraid not, if you actually look at the pic you can see the bottom of the disc has actually split as it was so thin.
If she had to do a reverse then that part of the disc would have snapped off..

She is not very good at "Looking after her car" :-

this must have been happening for a fair amount of time..

Yip if it makes a noise it should not, then something is not right...

I still get this "oh my god pulse racing feeling " just thinking about it and what could have happened
if ........

Still i dont thing she will be ignoring that kind of noise again after the telling of she got >:D

that is crazy, they must have been binding quite badly to wear that bad, because even if the mot was a year ago they would have been quite thin on the ground then.

This beggars belief!!

You don't need any mechanical knowledge to stop this happening - just a bit of common sense.

How can you drive around with pads worn down that much without realising

No wonder pugs keep crashing into our lovely minis :w00t:
