I was having a flick through some of my mini magazines when i saw a mini countryman with front door pockets with speakers in them, the question which i am asking is can you fit door pockets off mk1s or other models onto newer doors?

(not my pic)

will they fit properly e.g no gaps at either end to make them look like they are not actually meant to be there?

Your first problem is going to be that the MK1 pockets are welded in as part of the doors structure although I'm sure with a bit of simple welding and cutting they could be made to fit. I'd imagine you'd need to narrow them quite significantly to stop them hitting the seat as well like on the Australian Minis.

Have a look at this project, door pocket build mimicking mk1 style. Made from fibre glass.

Would be a lot easier to buy mk3 Riley elf pockets which are the right shape and screw on. You could paint them body colour.

The plastic Mk3 Elf/Hornet full length door pockets were also fitted on the Innocenti Mk3 I think........also think they dip down on one side to clear the window winder handles turning.

Im not after elf ones sadly as they are going to have speakers in them :)
Has anyone got the dimensions of the mk1 door pockets?
And how long the door itself is?

The problem with mk1 panels is they are too deep and will hit your seats as the mk1 door is thinner without internal windows. Also the buckets are tall and you will bash your hand when winding the windows. The shape of the pocket won't line up with a mk3 onward door either.

The buckets wont be a problem, as i am having electric windows :P
How will the shape not match up i know that they will most likely be smaller?

Has anyone got the dimensions of the riley elf ones?

Simple answer!!.... Don't fit any door pockets!! :D

When I bought nice new door cards for my 93 model, I couldn't bring myself to drill all the holes through them, needed to fit the later type plastic door pockets back on, so in the end I didn't bother fitting them at all.

But what would I do with all that stuff that I kept in them?? ..... Answer: I put it all in the bin!

Moral to the story: If you don't carry a load of crap around in your car in the first place, then you don't need door pockets to keep it all in!! :proud:
