I'll see if I can find my haynes manual for the time being

The instructions that came with it wern't very clear, and I couldn't get a solid white light to appear so settled for it flashing really fast, thinking that was it

well i'll try and explain a bit,
right you know where your fan belt goes round the water pump the altenator and then the bottom pully?
well the bottom pully is what you should be point the timing light at,
it should have a tiny bit/dent/mark what ever you want to call it, look for that mark it with a bit of tip ex so its easier to see,
then turn the engine on,
am the gun to it and the strobe flashes in time with the ignition so it alows you to see where the timing is (the little dent on the bottom pully)
next there should be a jagged thing on the block to the left that looks like this

my skills on paint
i think the dent on the bottom pully needs to be in line with the 2nd tooth down
so to do that you need to turn the dizzy left or right to make it move

make sure the engines running tho, and move the dizzy little bits at a time.
thats the best i could explain it really :L
hope you can understand

Fantastic, cheers :) That combined with reading the Haynes manual (Which I should have done to start off with, I know

Thankyou for your kind offer L400RAS, but I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow morning :) Don't really fancy driving it 35 miles when it's in the condition it's in at the moment

I'll update you all tomorrow :)

Cleaned the distributer cap with a screwdriver (the metal bits in it) and set up the timing and it runs much better :) :) Revs freely and dosen't judder :) It judders slightly and occasionally at 65+ but I guess thats normal for a Mini haha

Chuffed to bits, thanks again

I dropped a spark plug and closed the gap up a bit, I was very suprised at how much it affected the engine, was partly misfiring and running like a dog, all because of one tiny thing, but glad its not running how it was in the videos, bloody classic cars !
