if your after sound quality. go for 1 sub, if ur after SPL go for 2, if u have more than one it tends to muffle the bass note, as for what sub. go for something like a JBL GTO 12, or JL anything.

its impossible to say who make the BEST subs..

and when deciding there are many things u need to take into account

Budget
what music they will be playing
how much room u got
whether u want SPL or Sq

the list goes on.

Im keen on Vibe stuff. Currently got a 10inch vibe in my motor.

BUT PLEASE

Sound proof your boot first! There are sooooooo many vibrations when u have a sub in a mini it will drive u spaz!

Just thing is to take out every from the boot (as much as u can) ie fuel tank if possible lights and even boot lid. Then cover all bare metal with sound deadening stuff! Well thats my plan 4 the furture.

yeah u missed out VIBE from the list, for a compack sub and amp u can't get better. a mate of mine has a kicker 12 off a alpine amp and my vibe sub blows his out the water, wicked little things and the 10" versions fit nice in a mini boot.
im just fitting a boot linning kit in to mine and mounthing my amps and fuses to. hope to get you pics when its done.
Alex.

Well if you are paying extra for that then i would look into that.
I had a insure inspector come look at mine and didnt say anything about the rear seats.

but anything you do to your car that is not standard is classed as a modification......which means the insurence will be more!

man! insurance in the UK is retarded...here in canada it doesn't really matter. It's basically all based on age of the driver/ how long they've been driving/ mount of tickets/any driving convictions/ and accidents. basically your insurance for a car doesn't change if it's modded...and as for getting money back if you were to write it off.........just keep the receipts....for example my mini is originally a 998cc but will be 1275 with a few mods, i will still be paying insurance for a 998cc mini.............. so all i have to say about UK insurance is HAHAHAHA SUCKERS!!!

Any top-brand name will be fine, Alpine/Kenwood/Pioneer/Fusion/JBL/Vibe/Infinity etc. If possible, try and keep all of your gear the same make, it just tends to work a bit better.
