I've exploring the internet quite a bit on this topic and I can't really find anything very helpful.
Basically I want to pollish my carb to a mirror effect without chroming it. I don't have any pollishing equipment but I guess it's possible with a bit of emery and some metal pollish?
Can anyone give me any instructions please? :shy: :proud:

You could just buy a cover, but if you do polish go carefully so you don't distort the dashpot.

As above just buy a cover. You can buy shiny alloy cover for them, and then you can polish that more if you want to

No, don't just buy a cover!

The thing is its so hard to really polish the whole carb. So my ideal preference is to 'blast the main body, so it looks nice and new, and polish the dashpot, float chamber etc.

To polish, I use wet and dry (400, then 800, then 1200) then use loads of autosol! Will give you a near enough mirror finish

So basically sand it down to remove all the dirt and grime, then pollish like hell until it's shiny? :D

Remove all the grime with petroll first, its best if you take it off and you might as well rebuild it while you're at it

You really don't want to remove much metal. The dashpot is quite thin and may distort, through heat expansion, if it becomes irregular in thickness. Certainly don't use any power tools.

Yes, it's not 'that' thick and they can get quit pitted. You only want to be taking the top surface off to remove any scratches and light pitting.

Get it ultrasonically cleaned, a lot better than blasting in my opinion.
