Ye I'll probably just buy new dampers to be honest!!
The fact that they are a bit sketchy with the paint and rust issues don't really bother me as long as they do their job !!:)

My fitting issues were only on the back, where we had to use a spanner, around the top of the piston, and had to push quite hard to get it to be inline with the hole in the top of the arch that it goes through.
It may well be that my arch or mount or something isn't quite in the right position (no idea if its ever been replaced). So the boot is touching the arch, but as my dad pointed out, the boot doesn't move anyway.
I think for general road use, you can get something quite a bit cheaper, and it'll do the same job. I mean, I've got my Gaz shocks down at nearly the softest setting, think I've got them on about 3 clicks. G-Max seems to be recommended quite a bit.

Yeah is seen that mini sport do a good suspension package with gmax shocks it coated 160 ish sterling!! Seems reasonable but i dunno of minisprot do the TMF discount do they?!

I have gmax dampers on the back of mine but can't comment on improvement as that's how I bought it and haven't driven a mini with standard ones :)
