I've been driving the engine for a week now and have had no problem at all with burning oil. The compression is the same as before the rebuild. The rings were fitted to the same bores the same way up on the same pistons in their original orientation.
The only problem I did have was stupidly high oil pressure, 80-95psi all the time which was down to the Cooper S spring in the relief valve. I fitted the old spring which brought it down to 80 when cold and 60 when hot which is better but still a bit high I think.
