Car is mass loaded, deadened, dampened and rattle proofed already. Did that while doing the interior.
Even the doors go "thdud" when you shut them

Very good stuff :D

Curses, turns out the Pioneer DEH P88RS 2 doesn't have an SD card slot!

So, what's in the ball park that HAS got one? >_<

Why is the SD thing so important?

Mostly because I listen to the stereo while driving and live in a land where that means bumps, lots of bumps and more bumps. The Mini isn't really the most bump assimilating car in the world.
But also all my music is mp3 and I don't have an iPod.

I suppose I could just buy an iPod, is it really that good a head unit to warrant buying an iPod to go with and possibly having to rebuy a bunch of music just so iTunes will recognise it?

I'd just choose a different headunit to be fair matey! :D

Keep it simple ;)

Alpine, Pioneer etc etc.. All are similar, just choose one that you like and has all the features you need! Happy days! eBay it too, or go to the talk audio forum

The P88RS with an iPod is the way to go.

Seems a tad expensive though seen as you'd get the same overall 'status' with something half the price

Status ?

The headunit in question has been recommended due to its VERY high level of SQ, it's built in EQ and it's time alinement.

It's a competition level unit.

Have a read

http://www.talkaudio...-pioneer-p88rs/

My headunit (the 9855) seems half decent, cant complain when it was 50 quid and people are comparing it to the p88 which is >£150

Direct quote - ''Play with the headunit you have (9855 Alpine) , see if it can give the results you are after. If it can't then look around at what can. Eitehr headunit will probably provide the flexibilty you need, and the sound differences would only be noticeable with some SERIOUS kit downstream...''

Granted the p88rs seems to be good, but so can something so much cheaper - anyone can tell you what sounds good to them, but its your ears and your speakers etc etc

I should add that if price is no boundary then buy a gold plated p88rs with extendable wings but I am just trying to keep your wallet happy and your ears too ;)

I still think the flexibility of the RS takes it and makes it worth another 100 quid.

Plus the iPod cost and the hassle of converting mp3's etc

Say you got the p88 why can't you expand your phone memory with a SD card..?? Cheaper than an ipod and easier :)

Some good points raised there, guys.
As you say Ruckus, the 88 is mustard for SQ builds so in many ways it makes sense buying what I intend to end up with rather than spending out twice.

Upon reading up it seems the P88 doesn't come with any form of expansion as stock, the iPod / USB connections are not only additional (and about £70 each) but also individual, so a USB extension won't work on the iPod too and the tag support for external devices isn't well covered, admittedly not a massive inconvenience.

If one comes up at a reasonable price (enough to include said connector) I may just splash out.

The 88rs is end of line. So everything is secondhand or old stock.

iPod add on can be picked up for £20...

£20 is much more appealing :D
May plan for a USB connection and a small SSD instead, rather than the iPod. Same idea though.

Cheers fella.
