The emissions can be quite a headache. Last year, Gus failed on emissions, and the tester said he 'did me a favour' leaning off the mixture, etc. Borderline, tut tut tut, etc.
Since then, he'd been running really badly, and off the road because he wouldn't run for very long without conking out. Changing the mixture made no difference.
About a month ago, a chap had a look, and changed the points. After that, he was fine... and on his MOT, the emissions were fine.
No idea what changed!

Im going to try sorting mine tomorrow and take it for its retest on monday and ask them to test the emissions first and if it fails again just fix it then mot it
