Just a heads up for anyone thinking of roller painting their Mini. I tried rolling my Mini with Rustoleum combi-colour using the usual sponge rollers for gloss paint. I’ve watched the videos on how to do it, but that didn’t really tell me anything I didn’t already know. I tried thinning the paint at different amounts, but I was still unhappy with the finish. The orange peel was just a little bit too much for me. On top of that, the roller lines are very difficult to avoid when you are desperately trying to roll out air bubbles, and if you don’t roll out all the air bubbles the roller produces, then you end up with little craters where the bubbles were when the paint has dried.
Anyway, enough of rollering, the other day I was reading about the Rustoleum Hard Hat aerosols, and wondered if they were really as good as the manufacturers claim. They say they cover in one pass, and one can is equivalent to 2 to 3 of the rattle cans of the same size. Well, I bought six cans and started painting my Mini with these yesterday, and I have to say I am really impressed at how far one aerosol goes. To give you some idea of what you can expect, I have sprayed the front panel, both front wings, A panels, scuttle and windscreen surround with one 500ml can. It covers brilliant, and is flat like you would expect when you are spraying paint, and none of that orange peel, and looks a million times better than rolling the paint on. As far as I’m concerned it’s a no brainer. The only good thing I personally find with roller painting is you do get a high gloss finish, so no need to cut and polish to get a good shine.
Six aerosols cost me £61,20 free post on orders over £50 + vat, so you would need to buy at least six cans to get free post. This is where I bought mine. http://www.rustoleum...olourselect/3/8 By the way…No I don’t work for them
