Hi All,

Bought myself a set of 13x7 minilites last night for £160 - bargain! They came with two new conti sports, and two new stretch tyres.

Question is, are the stretch one OK to use, they are 135/70/r13 and look like they shouldn't fit?!

The conti tyres are 175/50/r13. If I can get away with not buying two new tyres that would be good, but starting to wonder if I should swop the stretched tyres for budget Nankang's?

Any thought on the above please?

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by "stretch" tyres..135 tyres are not designed to fit on 7 inch wide wheels..175 would be the minimun size..possibly even 195..

Well the tyre size is 137/70/r13 and it has been "stretched" over at 13x7 wheel - it certainly doesn't look right!

do 195 tyres clear on a mini? As that might be an alternative perhaps?

I think Sportspack mini's had 195 tyres..but im not 100 per cent sure on that...Either way if you are going from 10's or 12's..you are going to be cutting a fair chunk out of your wings and front panel to clear 7 inch wide wheels.

Stretch tyres are essentially just that, a tyre that has had it's sidewalls stretched to fit the rim. There is nothing wrong with doing this to a certain point, as long as the manufacturer says so. If anything it makes the tyre flex less. It's used often in drift racing for that reason I beleive. As long as it's not overly stretched, there isn't anything really wrong in stretching tyres.

I haven't heard anything about them doing that, my mate ran them on his caddy for quite a while with no problems whatsoever.. handled better than his e30 bmw in all fairness!

The wider the wheel the worse it gets..But I do like the look!! I have 6x12 deep dish with 165 section..and they are ok but still grab the camber quite badly sometimes..

I've never been a fan of the stretched tyre look, even seems a little chavvy... regardless 135 tyres to fit on a rim which should have 175's is a bit of a stretch? >_<

I'd double check with the manufacturer to ensure that it is safe :D

Some stretch on a nicely modified mini = great, looks awesome!

Overly stretched tyres = dangerous and looks ridiculous, the photo of that jap celica comes to mind.

Aye, check with manufacturers first, as if it's outside their recommendations it's a) illegal, and b) can void your insurance

I was told that it was only illegal if the manufacturer said it was unsafe to do so with the tyres in question?

A guy on the banded steels page on fb got fined, and maybe points? ( cant remember) on each of his wheels for them being stretched due to them being outside the manufactures specification.

Well try asking a tyre manufacturer if its safe to stretch their tyres onto wheels too big for them, they're guranteed to say no to cover themselves.
