Those are in effect temporary pop rivets, which can be locked and unlocked as many times as you wish by using the pliers. You use these through drilled holes in lap joints, e.g. front floor to toeboard, which can't conveniently be clamped together any other way for welding. They are also used extensively when fitting aluminium skin panels to vehicles which are built that way, where you drill a few holes, put the pins in, and then it is held securely while you drill the remaining holes and put the rivets in. They are also used in the aircraft industry in the same way.

If you use them on your Mini, it is simple to fill the holes with weld afterwards.

The yellow and blue pins are nylon faced skin pins, yellow 1/8th blue 5/32nd. The black and brass coloured pins are cleco's and require the silver coloured pliers to use them.

These are all used on civil aircraft and military aircraft to clamp two pieces of metal together before riveting and not necessarily pop rivets. We generally use then for solid riveting, Hi Loks, Cherry rivets etc. You can use them on cars to clamp together wings, quarter panels , A panels etc. DO NOT USE the nylon faced ones next to where you are welding as they will melt. That is where you use the cleco's.

They make your life easier with regards to clamping thing together. For clamping force they do not beat proper vice grips / clamps etc but they do their job nice enough.
