Hi all
Changing engines shortly from 1098 to Metro 1275(89 model with electronic dizzy)
Standard engine no mods except lcb and k&n filters
Which carb would be most suitable? (I have all 3 to choose from)
Also is the pre verto clutch more preferential to the verto as fitted to the Metro?
All views much appreciated.

well the 90's cooper minis had HIF44's on them. so i would sugest HIF44 purely because one is on mine being an RSP. works well, plus I think the metro's had HIF44's I think, could be wrong tho

Either, it's just a matter of personal preference. The HIFF 44 will certainly be easier to set up and maintain, whereas the twins will require balancing and be a little more work. Twins are supposed to give a livelier throttle response than a single carb does though, plus you really can't beat the look of them when it comes to under bonnet aesthetics either!!

twin carbs will give you more torque over a single carb and once they are set up they will need little or no maintenance plus they look the business under the bonnet, thats why i use them.

Which needles would you suggest for the twins?
Also verto or pre verto?

for a 1275 i used to use 'M' needles which worked fine, i would use the pre verto clutch as it is a bit lighter than the verto.

The HIF44 was standard on RSP and Mainstream Cooper models but the John Cooper 'S' conversion, like on my RSP, replaced it with twin 1 1/4" carbs as part of a number of upgrades.
