They were probably worried about a real one breaking down.

Oh shut up. Seriously.

It's sponsored by BMW, of course they're going to use a new Mini.

The dance floor would be like an Ice rink with all the oil leaks, it would be a health and safety nightmare!!

They could have borrowed Victoria Plum and had a true Rover BRITISH Mini. Isn't is meant to be celebrating Britishness? So it's sponsored by BMW, just like everything, it's all about money.

My girlfriend consoled me as it drove up the ramp.
"Thats not a ******* Mini!"
It's rather impressive as a whole, though. I like tyre quirky store of it, unlike the very regimented Beijing ceremony.

BMW have provided around 7000 cars for the Olympics as part of their sponsorship. The flame was taken through some of assembly at MINI Plant Oxford, carried two or three employees so it was always going to be a MINI in the ceremony. Still, it would be lovely to see a glimpse of a Mini :-)

Granted it should've been a mini to be very british, but why couldn't they have been dropped off by a black cab, or a double decker bus? These are both very British, and also extremely 'London'

The BMW is the the modern version, of a true great brit, much like what this whole opening ceromony has tried to show, is it not?
