The mini hasnt been started properly since earlier this year and I am going to freshen her up before the MOT which will hopefully be soon as my test is booked for late this month! :D

I am thinking

New oil
Oil filter
Need to bleed brakes and clutch too
Plugs
HT leads??

Dont want to spend a lot as I am literally skint!

Got a mate who is a proper mechanic and will do this with me but I need to get parts for it all

What else should I do to ensure it starts and idles well?

Cheers

Air filter. If its a K&N, I'm sure it'll be fine as it is, however.

While you're at it, check your brakes over too. Take the front wheels off and how much pad material is left. Do the same for the rear drums, then adjust properly. You'd be reet pissed off if the car fails on something as simple as brake effort.

unscrew the old one, unplug it, whip it out and put the new ones in, then check your gap and adjust if neccacery, all you need is feeler gauges and a flatty :)

if it isnt running i would be check :air filter filement, carb and timing , and renew as neccacery
and work your way through the problems from there so you dont waste time and money replacing bits twice or bits that are ok :)

most of a standard service can weight untl after the mot as you dont want to have paid 30 quid to do all your oil and need it for a set of barings etc
