Hi all,

So after getting my mini back from the bodyshop just over 2 weeks ago (havnt even uploaded finished pics) I spent this morning giving it a good polish, only to be sitting at some traffic lights to be rear ended by an X5. (her foot slipped off the break being an automatic)

Damage doesnt look terrible but the body shell is dented around the rear lights, and above the boot.
The woman driving the X5 said she will pay cash for repairs, but what do we think its going to cost? anyone have an idea?

Its booked in to a repair shop in the morning 8am for a full inspection, and dependant on the price hopefully she will pay cash.

please see pics below :(

Ben.

Was there any damage to hers? You may have already, but just in case, gather all the evidence you can to prove liability and get her insurance details.

It looks like it could be repaired relatively cheaply, with a boot hinge panel and a new (or 2nd hand) boot lid. You'd have to have a close look at the boot floor & be sure there isn't any indirect damage. Balance up everything: you could argue more new panels are required for a 1st class repair, but if that makes it too expensive to be settled out of pocket, you could be stung on your insurance renewal, or even get it written off. Your insurers will expect to be told anyway

I would be very careful with this, a lot of people offer to pay cash, then when they see how big the bill is, they deny it was their fault etc.
Get a statement about what happened signed by the person, yourself and any witnesses so that she can't deny responsibility.

That is annoying, is there any damage to the boot floor?

I'd say that would need a new rear panel, you can buy genuine ones. Maybe even a boot floor if it has been creased.

As long as the rear 1/4s aren't distorted then its a simple enough repair. Once the sportspack arches are off you should be able to see if they are damaged.

If they are ok then it could be a cash job, if it needs jigging and pulling(or the 1/4s replacing) then it starts getting very expensive.

Hi all,

thanks for the messages. No even a scratch to her x5.
Just spoken to her and she said whatever the bill she will pay cash, im just slightly concerned that if its cash we could never claim for injuries.
We are both OK, just slight back/neck pain, but i guess we will know when we wake up in the morning! hopefully all pain gone and a simple cash resolution.

The boot floor seems OK but until its on a ramp i suppose we wont know.
I will let you know what the garage quotes me tommorrow!

Make sure she pays ASAP if going that way. If she doesn't then it wouldn't look good insurance wise if you take a week to tell them. Good luck.

I still notify insurance company, she can pay cash for the claim, but as long as its recoreded you can claim for personal damages if that happens will say it will be a back panel, rear valance and boot lid, and a repair to the boot floor

You might find your stiffer in the morning, just be careful if you are & go to your GP at least if it's really sore.

This happened to me in May, cost the insurance company £1,400 to repair. Think they added a few things on though to make it that price :/ Still not pleased with mine to be honest. Make sure you take it to a garage that is known :) Good luck!

If you report it to your insurance company and you mention that you and your G/F have neck/back pains they will insist that you go and see an independant doctor.
This happened to me when i had a head on about 6 years ago. (Another driver on my side of road just in case you were wondering :P ) It took over a year to resolve, but the car was repaired very quickly.

So if your going down the cash route, definately get checked over by your doctor.
