Hi everyone, I’m new here, :ermm: and have a quick question which I just hope is not as stupid as it sounds.

I am waiting for my MG Metro Turbo to arrive, which hopefully will be this Tuesday, on a transporter from Wales to Oxford, and am not sure whether it will run on unleaded or not ?.

Many thanks in anticipation

Malc

P.S. I hope that I have found the correct forum as my searches have come up blank for this particular model.

it depends on how old it is dude. You'll need to check the first part of the engine number or take the head off and inspect to be sure.

MG Metro Turbo - leaded fuel pre 1989 - 1275cc - 12HD26
MG Metro Turbo - unleaded - 1275cc - 12HF01

Where in oxford malc??? i'm in witney!!!!

if it is a lead head don't panic, there's loads of additives you can use... failing that, when you are rebuilding it (once a month) you could get hold of one of the later heads and fit that.... make sure it's the turbo head though because the compression is much lower.

the only difference on the turbo heads is the 8mm stems on the exhaust valves, it still ran quite a high compression ratio at 9.4:1

But not to worry if it is leaded, i'd recommend castrol valvemaster plus from halfords. just stick normal or super unleaded in and the additive will protect the seats and also boost the octane by 2 points :ermm:

is there anything wrong with using say opitipax, or tesco finest petrol (99RON) in a normal 998 with a stage 1 kit?
