hi all. Thought i would post a little about ourselves. Names ade and my wifes names toni, just bought a 1989 mini automatic to restore for my wife as she has always wanted one. We run a bespoke vehicle upholstery service and we are planning to restore the car totally including a full leather interior. Im a vw nut so i will be asking loads of advice on the car. The wife is mini mad. The automatic will be changed for manual gearbox and if possible power steering due to a medical condition. We plan to start the car restoration in the winter months in our workshop..i will post pics of progress. Cheers ade and toni.

Cheers all. Looking forward to starting it. Got a full leather retrim to complete on a mgc before i can get the mini in the workshop and start stripping her. Already got a media blaster ready for the bodyshell. Will be on the lookout for a manual gearbox engine and subframe. Mate of mines got a sport rack for the steering. Ade and toni.

Hi all , well its been a while since last posting , retrims have been mega busy and the mini has took a back step whilst we restored my sons vw t4 , the mini has now been stripped to bare shell ready for media blasting , replacment panels required for floor , scuttle , a post drivers side , rear quarters and rear valance. Pics to follow . Car is staying as a automatic now.
Ive searched but cant find an answer , im going to replace the rear full quarters to the window line , how do you open the edgeing seam where panels meet .
Cheers ade

Between the 1/4 and the waist rail?

They're spot welded. Get yourself a wire brush and you should be able to find the welds

Got a little done on the mini today, cleaned bitumen off the floor and found out the quickest way is with a flat blade on a air chisel lol. Cars not looking to bad.
