Don't think this has been posted here yet, but have a read of the retro rides thread:
http://retrorides.pr...d=135328&page=1
Its all a bit over my head at the moment, but from what i can gather after having a good read, is that soon enough, any modifications at all, including alloy wheels and small changes like that, could command an IVA.
Something obviously needs to be done otherwise it'd wipe everyone out, most of us would lose our cars, and mines my daily driver, for example.
Anyway, i could go on for ages, but i'll let everyone have a read and comment, now i've bought it to everyone's attention.
Not sure if its in the right section, feel free to move it if it isn't.

Please oppose this proposal.
http://ec.europa.eu/...ions/pti_en.htm
It jeopardises the legitimate activities of thousands or motor enthusiasts, that also generates millions of pounds in the UK economy. There is no social value in compelling motorists to keep their vehicles in strictly original condition and modifications & improvements have always been allowed, within the bounds of the current construction and use regulations.
There is already adequate legislation in the UK administered by the DVLA and VOSA - MoT's, IVA.
Do you really wish to make it illegal for us to fit seatbelts to cars that didn't have them as original equipment; improve vehicle lighting, brakes & suspension to make vehicles safer?
This legislation is likely to be incompatible with Article 7 of ECHR in many cases and will cause chaos for those charged with enforcing it, if it is passed.

Oh no.... Your modifications will have to be safe, sensible and secure.... Whatever will we do.... Oh thats right. Build your car properly so it doesnt kill you or someone else.
So you're saying that you'd be more than happy to pay in excess of around £500 every time you felt like changing your wheels, or seats, or bolting some arches on etc?

Perfection! I know what you mean somewhat, logic dictates it shouldnt be allowed to be passed because it would screw up more than it remedies, but still got to try and oppose it.

Surely the government wouldn't allow this when they're trying to save jobs and the economy, this would have a massive impact and yet the only info you can find on it is on small car club forums? Whats that about
Just sounds like scaremongering.

This type of thing is infuriating, proposed by some idiot who drives (or is driven in) some big BMW, Audi or Jag, who has no need or desire to change their car from how it left the factory. Once again the EU are showing how far out of touch they are with everybody. Obviously your car's modifications should be safe, but this is covered by MOT and other checks as Ethel said.

After a quick skim over the forum, the ACE member that replies to that thread says this has been in the making for 8 years. If so why are we only hearing about it or trying to raise the alarm now when its supposedly too late to make an impact?

I hope, and half expect you're right. But just in case, I'm happy to rattle a few MEP's cages.
