they might put this law in place but i doubt it will be backed, like road tax, any car built before the cut off date doesnt have it, which could be the stance they choose here, as how on earth are the government going to find out the origianl factory spec of a mini? morris? cortina? their is no way to tell on old cars.

Well, the way I see it you have 2 options,

1) stick your head in the sand and say it'll never happen here and hope for the best
or
2) try and stop it from happening

now, it might be that it doesn't happen and its all scare mongering. if you go with option 1 well you can sit back smug and tell everyone that you told them so, if you go with option 2 then you can also sit back smug and feel that you helped to protect your right to personalise your car as you see fit

But, if they actually are trying to push this through and everyone goes for option 1, it'll happen and whinging about it afterwards aint gonna change anything
If we all go for option 2, we might just stop it and then hen you can also sit back smug and feel that you helped to protect your right to personalise your car as you see fit

your choice, I know which I choose.

And to those that think f@ck'm even if they do it, I'm not going to pay any attention to it, well good luck at the following MOT/ you get pulled by VOSA when they take away your V5 (like if they call you in for an IVA now), and as to why haven't you heard of it before, well ACE have been trying to raise the awareness of this since IVA's became an issue but most peoples reaction to date as been to stick their heads in the sand and think it'll go away.

It is very likely that we will end up with something like the TUV inspection and having to get parts approved ect. You could still build modified cars, but its going to cost. and it might take a few years to impliment it (there is already a waiting list for IVA's as it stands), but it doesn't mean that they wont.

All i can say is Good Luck to a proposal that will NEVER become law. :whistling: Who came up with this because what are the pros of this coming into force ? Yes all we need is our police to pull literally every car over and going "well that wheel nut isn't standard" rather than catching actual criminals and not just keen car enthusiasts haha

What about companies like MED, Swiftune, Newton Commercial, Aldon Automotive, Kent Cams, Custom Consoles, DSN Classics, Facet, Specialist Components, Optimise Automotive that would all suffer MASSIVELY if they couldn't sell their products? And that's just from a quick flick through 1 mini magazine let alone all the other types like Modified Ford, VW, Jap imports etc magazines. Come to think of it there wouldn't be any more Mini Mag or Mini World because no-one would have anything to write about! What about all the insurance companies that would lose business because people can't insure 'illegal' cars?

There are so many companies this would affect & potentially billions of pounds at stake. I for one won't sit by & think 'It'll never happen' & wait for someone else to do something about it, I'll be contacting my MEP to tell them to oppose it.

You hit the nail on the head. it would cost the government a ridiculous amount and effect the economy massively for the worse and as always it comes down to money hence why would it become law, would be simply stupid.

Just sent this to my MEP's via http://www.writetothem.com/:

Yours sincerely,

You may or may not be supporting this but I and many of the countries drivers do not.

Please oppose this proposal.

http://ec.europa.eu/...om(2012)380.pdf

It jeopardises the legitimate activities of thousands or motor enthusiasts, that also generates potentially billions of pounds in the UK economy. There is no social value in compelling motorists to keep their vehicles in strictly original condition and modifications & improvements have always been allowed, within the bounds of the current construction and use regulations.

There is already adequate legislation in the UK administered by the DVLA and VOSA - MoT's, IVA.

Do you really wish to make it illegal for us to fit seatbelts to cars that didn't have them as original equipment; improve vehicle lighting, brakes & suspension to make vehicles safer?

This legislation is likely to be incompatible with Article 7 of ECHR in many cases and will cause chaos for those charged with enforcing it, if it is passed.

And posted a link to the ACE site on Facebook

Yes it was called type approval and bikers fought it tooth and nail. The clueless bugger Kinnock was at the heart of a load of that.
