Laska. Pic posted by MINI WILL is correct. Smooth side of fan faces engine, side with ribs faces the radiator.

Thank you guys! I got myself in a bit of a state. Started reading about whether my electric fan should blow towards the engine or suck away and into the wheel arachnid and then came across conflicting views on the fitting of the fan and some asserting that mine was fitted incorrectly. I really appreciate you taking the time to help. by the way the electric fan now sucks away from the engine and blows into the wheel arch.

This is from Minispares site.
The smooth, dressed side of the fan faces the engine. There are metal washers on the fan which the bolts go through into the waterpump.
