I'd avoid free listing weekends too, yes you can list free within the eBay limitations. However they tend to entice people into listing a lot more useless 'tat' and your genuine item gets lost in the pages and pages of overpriced (because it's free to list it) crap.
I always end items Sunday evening, always have and continue to do well from it.
