Hi all,
I've just got back from an epic roadtrip around Europe and Tunisia and thought I'd share the best bits with you. In total we clocked up 15,000 miles over 4 months with a total of, wait for it....... ZERO breakdowns. Who ever said minis were unreliable?

Our route went something like this:
Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Tunisia, back up through Italy, France and finally home!

Here is our trusty steed, Harry, as he became known:
*A few people having been asking for more details. He is a 1983 mini city e. It is still the original 998 and had done about 40,000 miles before leaving. Best of all I bought him when I was 15 for £50!

Europe:
At the transfagarasan pass in Romania. The road was closed at the time but we managed to get half way up before being blocked by a snow drift

Ok, well maybe my 'zero breakdowns' wasn't very accurate, Harry needed constant tinkering and maintenance along the way.

Have you ever seen water like this???? Lefkada

Up the adriatic coast

Gulp. Here we go....

Parking, Albanian style.

The reception area of a Bosnian camp site, complete with rifle and mortars.....

From here we drove down through Italy stopping off at the usual sights before catching a ferry to Tunis

Tunisia:

The road down to the desert

Predictably we got stuck as soon as the sand started...

The best part of the trip was always the reaction the mini got. In almost every country we went to people would wave, thumbs up and take photos. It is a universal truth that everyone, even if they don't know what the car is, loves minis!

By popular demand here is a link to a photobucket album with more pictures:

Update! Thought I'd put up this video which I bodged together for a bit of fun:

Had a similar experience LOL but not on a desert though..I hope you've found an alternative road, that one would be a nightmare >_<
And sand and dust have an exceptional ability to reach the fuel tank and engine oil!!

Oh man, what a great thread.

I adore 4.5 x 10 minilighted Mini's too. Lefkada is looking like a holiday destination simply due to your photo of the water !
What maintenance did you do to keep Harry breakdown free ?

I can't give enough kudos to this thread !

Thanks for sharing your trip, it looks incredible, so inspiring. I love the Albania photos. I've recently got back from five months travelling (without the Mini) and although hiring a Moke in Australia eased the pain a little I hankered after my little Mini almost every day. Your thread has given me the hope that I may be able to combine my love of travelling with my love of Minis one day soon. Thanks :)

Fortunately a convoy of 4x4's came past and gave us a push to get us going..... they obviously thought we were idiots though!
