well i would say if your fitting a 3.1 diff then go for a 266 cam other wise it will be difficult to keep on cam

+1 on that.

I originally thought about keeping the 3.44 that's in the metro gearbox that I've currently got in the car. I use the car more for fast A roads rather that being shaken to bits down back lanes, I like my spine! lol. With the 3.44 it screams at about 60mph.

Thinking about it, I've got a metro turbo gearbox sitting in my garage. Its got a 3.2 diff in it, could be a better compromise

3.2 diff on 12 inch wheels should work well with MD266.

I've a 1293 running the 266 on 10 inch wheels and this is a really good balance for lanes and faster roads. If you go for the MD266 I would try the 1.5 rockers, as this cam has significantly less lift than the 276 and 286. With my set-up higher lift rockers with MD266 and twin HS2s gave noticeably better mid-range and high end torque.

Cheers for the advice guys, I've got the complete spec if it helps

Spec -

1275 A+ block, bored to +40
Mini Sport road sport head (37mm inlet, 29mm exhaust, double valve springs, gas flowed, ported & polished)
C-AJJ3378/40 Pistons (from minispares ctr)
Balanced metro turbo crank
Centre main strap
Duplex vernier timing gear
HIF 44 or Twin HS2's
Maniflow LCB
RC40 twin box system

I've also got 1.5-1 ratio ratio rockers, would they be worth while fitting if I've got an aftermarket cam?

I'd thow in an alternative..
Twin HS4
Swiftune SW10
3.44 diff

If you want to keep the 1.5 rollers, i'd go for a kent 266.

Ah, you're not the only one i've heard complaining excessive wear from piper cams, kent cams are properly hardened after the regrind.
