Popped to Castle Howard last weekend with Paddy and the kids and this little group of cars were having a meet up.....not sure if I liked them or not to be honest  definitely different and the engines were amazing, bit like a tractor engine

One of the owners pootled over to Paddy and commented that its a shame he wasnt totally original for a Cooper S, our 15 year old teenager then gave him a lecture on the 1999 John Cooper Le S Works and told him (very politely) but in no uncertain terms that he was totally original and maybe he should stick to what he knows

The Jowett Jupiter sports car and it's stablemate the Jowett Javelin were very advanced cars for their day. Look them up on Wikipedia. Performance was excellent but the company was too small to achieve the pricing demanded by the growing market for new cars.

From the photos, seven of them covered the 60 odd miles from Bradford, where they were built, to Castle Howard in only 60 odd years! That must have cost a couple of gearboxes, a few headgaskets and a whole oilfield of oil!!

[They were really nice handling cars with more problems designed in than even Issigonis could dream up!]

I live on a road named after the Jowett in Tamworth, sadly their home town refused to name a road in their honour.

I used to see one of those every day on the way to school in the 1970's. It was metallic blue.

Here's one I spotted in Glasgow last year.

And here's one that's been altered slightly!!!

I'd have a javelin, the Jupiter doesn't do it for me though.

All were elderly, most had pipes (mainly the women) headscarfs, picnics, and flasks

Shifty would of loved them

Whats so wrong with an MG A? Maybe I want to buy a pair of MG branded slippers to match my MG branded pipe, umbrella, tweed jacket, and go on drives around the country side top down in the rain because its a British thing to do! :P
