You can see my other thread, I'm a little disappointed with the iPhone 5 specs. Having said that, personally I prefer iOS to Android. If I were in your position, I would wait a little longer until the 5 comes out, and see if you can get a bargain on the 4S. The differences between the two are not that major - although the newer model does have the A6 chip instead of the A5 chip which is much faster. The 4S is not exactly slow though.
The resale value is a good point. Apple devices always seem to cost more than their rivals after 12 months or so.
The Sony, despite running Android, is not a bad shout - now that they have dropped Ericsson they seem to be a little nicer again.
If you have already had the N8, are you considering the Lumia 800 or 900? Personally I think the 900 is under specced compared to its rivals but it still looks great, and having had a Windows 7 phone before, its a decent enough OS.
Apple devices are more controlled that the competition but result in a generally smoother complete product.

Thanks for all your input guys, at least now I'm between just the iPhone and the Galaxy S III, as the HTC one doesn't seem to be very popular.
The descision might be made for me later this week though. It seems that now the iPhone 5 has been released there are some cracking deals starting to be offered on the iPhone4s. (i.e. T-Mobiles "Full Monty" unlimited data plan for just £26 per month, instead of £41 as it was last week!!). As Black.Ghost mentioned above, I'm really not too bothered about getting the iPhone5 as I really don't see it to be that much different to the iPhone4s, certainly not worth paying out an extra £15 per month for any way!!

Jammy.
I'm paying £36 p/m for my 4S with Three on The One Plan. Unlimited data, 5k texts & 5k minutes or something like that. All I really needed was the data pack. When I was on PAYG with Vodafone I had a 500mb/300 texts/100 mins 30 day when spending £10 on top up and never went over the texts or minutes. Went over 250mb plan once though.
[EDIT]OH! Don't forget cashback sites like Quidco!
I ordered The One Plan through that and earnt £100.
3 month payment speed but that's not too bad. Will probably get something for the car when that comes through.

AGGHHHH!!!
Rang up to get the T-Mobile deal, but can't port my existing number as I'm already with T-Mobile, meaning in order to get the deal I would have to get a new number. The only way I can keep my existing number is to transfer it to another network, then transfer it back to T-Mobile afterwards!!!
Does anybody now if I could port it to another network on a pay as you go sim one day, then port it onto a T-Mobile contract the next day?

you can do that, can't remember if there's a certain time frame for doing it.
l'd definitely go for the SIII at the moment, cheaper and better

haha, I like the one that takes the things that are better with the hardware on the SIII and makes them into bad points, particularly the point about the standby and talk time!!

It's clearly a no-brainer!
